"....You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill." Matthew 5:14 MSG
I love the way The Message translates this familiar verse. I believe it really drives home what Jesus is teaching us in His Sermon on the Mount. The primary purpose for our continued existence here on this planet, after redemption, is to be a light. In the absence of light there is nothing but dark ness and we Christians are ones God chose to bring His light into the world. Although we are to bring this light into the world, we are not the source of it. Remember those fiber optic trees that everyone had in the 80's? Until they were placed in a dark room and plugged in, they looked like the frayed end of a clear plastic rope. Once they were plugged in and the power source was activated, the ends would light up in brilliant colors. Much like fiber optics, we are all connected to a light source which is Jesus Christ. The fibers, or strands, that connect us are invisible and the light travels undetected until it reaches its destination where it radiantly bursts forth through us, God's chosen vessels. Are you connected to the Light Source? If you are "in Christ" the answer is yes and the proof is the light you emit.
