In the wake of all that has happened recently, from the deadly shooting in Las Vegas to the senseless massacre in Sutherland Springs, many are left asking, "Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?" On the surface this seems to be a valid question that begs a profound answer, but there is no short or simple answer. Could eliminate bad things God? Sure, but what would that action require? For hate, greed, prejudice, and every other evil condition that controls the mind and actions of men to be removed from this earth would also require the removal of free will. That would leave masses of 'machine like' beings controlled by a Creator who demanded strict discipline. That's not the nature of our God. But neither does He ignore evil. His heart breaks like ours when bad choices are made and people suffer. The LORD replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.” Psm 12:5. Without evil in the world there would be no need for words like redemption, salvation, mercy, or grace. We have a God, a loving Father, who has promised to never leave us or forsake us. He never promised to take the pain out of the world, but He did promise to share in it. He will always be there to comfort those who call on His name in times of trouble. (Psm 9:9) Know that no one who has believed in and called on the Lord has suffered and died alone. Your heavenly Father assured you of this when He allowed His own Son to die for you. Suffering and pain in this fallen world is a reality, but so is God's unconditional and unfailing love for all of us.
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2Cor 1:3,4
