"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32
Last week Kellie Wilson made this statement, "A lie will never become a truth even if you choose to believe it." In other words, a lie is a lie regardless of who, or how many, believe it. It seems that lying has become a national pastime- everyone's doing it. There was a day when getting caught telling a lie was a shameful thing but today it is accepted, even justified, as a means to a goal. The buzz word used for lying is 'spin.' Doesn't that sound better- far more sanitized? There are even 'spin doctors' whose only job is to spin the truth to make it say what they want. Some even do this with the Bible! With all this spin (take the 'p' out of 'spin' and you have the correct word here) going around, how do we know the real truth when we hear it? First we must plug-in to the source for truth, God's Word. Read and find out for yourself what God says. We must be like the Berean Jews that Paul refers to in Acts 17 who examined the Scriptures daily to find the truth. Secondly, we must be Spirit-filled. The Spirit of God, which resides in everyone who believes, will give you discernment, insight, and guidance if you seek it. It is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that we will be able to separate truth from lies and navigate in these shark-infested waters that we live. Know that it is your Father's delight to share His truth with you.
"But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come." John 16:13
