Frankly Speaking

On Wednesday we will be celebrating Independence Day. On the fourth of July each year we celebrate the day that brave delegates of the young Continental Congress met and adopted the Declaration of Independence-a document that formally stated the colonies' justification to be free from British rule. That resolution didn't settle well with the British- they didn't just pack up and go home, they resisted and a war (actually two wars) had to be fought to settle the matter. Freedom never comes easy. The one who holds another in bondage never lets go without a fight or struggle. So it is with sin. The Bible tells us that we were born into slavery, that we are "slaves to sin" (Romans 6). A slave is someone who is subject to the will of another. They are controlled by their oppressor. When unchecked, sin takes over our lives and controls us-we end up doing, and saying, things that not only hurt us, but hurt others. But we too have a Declaration of Independence, it is called The Bible. Found within its pages is the plan for deliverance, redemption, and justification. Whenever you feel tempted, overwhelmed, defeated, anxious, alone, fearful, or depressed, open the Bible and begin to read. Pray for Holy Spirit to speak to you through the words that you read. He is faithful to do so. If you will commit to this one simple act, you will find life, liberty and happiness.
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty [emancipation from bondage, true freedom]" 2Cor 3:17 AMP
