I really enjoy the sport of football. The thrill of seeing a fullback run up the middle dragging defensive backs with him, or a wide receiver jump up over a defender to catch a perfectly thrown pass. I enjoy a good defensive play where a lineman wraps up a runner and pulls him down or a linebacker makes a hit that can be heard in the stands. Football is a physical sport that brings out the best and worst in its players. Taunting and gloating are two of the downsides of a game that runs on testosterone and sweat. When I see a player laying on the turf after a hit with his adversary celebrating and gloating over him it bothers me. To make a good hit is good, to gloat is not. In the game of life we will enjoy moments of victory and have to suffer through times of defeat. In those times of victory we need to remember who gave us the victory and give Him the thanks and glory. Being humble is not always easy, but the rewards are great. The last thing we want is to see our enemies gloating over our defeat. God's word promises us that if we will remain humble and give credit where credit is due, that our foes will not be allowed to gloat over our failures. We must be reminded that our battles are not against people, but against the devil and his spiritual forces. Although we must endure many hits and setbacks along the way, we have been assured of a final victory. I've been told that the post-game celebration will be like none we have ever seen before.
