Frankly Speaking

Then Peter came to him and asked,
“Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven! Matthew 18:21,22

Do you have a hard time forgiving others who have done you wrong? Well you're not alone. In a society that dwells on tolerance and diversity, it sure seems to me that people are way too easily offended these days and tend to hold on to those offenses. Many offenses are very petty, but others are serious and cause deep emotional wounds within the victim. One of the ways our mind deals with unforgiveness is to bury painful offenses deep inside our brain in the subconscious. If these are not dealt with they can lead to physical ailments and disease. The offense may be hidden or forgotten, but it still has lasting effects on our body, soul, and spirit. Unforgiveness, the inability or refusal to forgive someone who has wronged you, not only effects our body and soul, it will eventually eat away at our relationship with God as well. I encourage you to pray and ask Holy Spirit regularly to show you those who have wronged you. Forgive them out loud. Do this over and over if necessary until you feel a release. If some really painful experiences come up then seek help with someone who is qualified to lead you through forgiveness. Understand that forgiveness is the key that will unlock your freedom.

“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins." Matthew 6:14,15.

Ever heard of a red herring? Webster's defines the term as
something unimportant that is used to stop people from noticing or thinking about something important. This practice has been around since the beginning of time and is widely used by governments, politicians, corporations, or anyone seeking to distract. Our enemy, the devil, likes to get us distracted. When we are distracted we have a hard time hearing what God is saying to us. Christians buy into his game and tend to get caught up in petty arguments or doctrinal disputes and miss the important issues that lie before us and desperately need our attention. These distractions don't necessarily have to be bad things either. Oswald Chambers once said "The good is always the biggest enemy of the best." Our country is in dire straits and, whether she knows it or not, desperately needs the church to get focused and do what it was designed by Christ to do- take back what the enemy has stolen. God chose us for a time such as this and we need to stay focused and "in the game." How? Quit wasting valuable time and energy on things that really don't matter in the kingdom of God. Spend quality time alone with your heavenly Father, listening for His voice, so that you can know and do His will. Finally, yoke yourself with others who are doing the same.

Don’t let them waste their time in endless dis-cussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations, which don’t help people live a life of faith in God.
1 Ti 1:4
Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. 2 Ti 2:24                                                                         Pastor Frank Dodson

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
James 1:19

I had a dream the other night that President Trump came to our house for a visit. I don't remember all of the details, but I do remember that he was genuinely interested in what was going on in my life and what I had to say. He not only listened, but he asked questions as well. One thing that great leaders all have in common is their ability to listen. Now don't confuse listening with hearing. Listening describes an intentional activity. In contrast, hearing is something that happens without any cognitive effort. You can hear something even when you don't want to hear it and don't try to hear it. Are you a good listener? Do you really care what others have to say? Do you give others your undivided attention or do you rehearse in your mind what you are going to say next while they are still talking? People can tell whether you really care about them by the way you listen. I believe that most of the problems in this world could be solved if people would talk less and listen more. Obviously this is an age old problem since the word "listen" is mentioned over 500 times in the Bible. I know many Christians who truly want to meet the needs in their community but rarely get out of their 'preacher mode' long enough to listen- to God or to men. In order to know and understand the hurts and pains of those around us, we must learn the art of listening. It is only when we begin to listen that we truly will be able to bring change to our community.

"To those who listen to my teaching, more under-standing will be given, and they will have an abun-dance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them. That is why I use these parables, For they look, but they don’t really see. They hear, but they don’t really listen or understand." Mat 13:12,13

 Frankly Speaking

God's gifts and God's call are under full warranty--never canceled, never rescinded.
Romans 11:29

I have come to believe that satan puts more stock in our destiny, or calling, than we do since he puts forth more effort in trying to derail it than we do in trying to achieve it. In other words, he believes what God says about us more than we do. He is not deaf, he has heard the prophesies spoken over us. He can distinguish between the ones that are from God and the ones that are false since he is the "father of lies." He believes the prophesies of God, the words that have been spoken over us, and they make him shake in his boots because he knows that "God's gifts and his call are irrevocable." Why do we not receive these prophesies with such reverence? Why do we so easily give up and walk away from God's calling? These should be sobering questions. The enemy doesn't give up, he will continue to attempt to discourage us, day after day. His sole purpose is to prevent us from reaching our full potential. Why would he make this such a priority? Because he knows the power and authority that a fully-charged Christian, who believes his destiny, walks in. He understands the threat that type of Christian is to his kingdom. It is only when we finally begin to grasp who we are in Christ and take hold of the promises that He has spoken over us that we will walk in victory. My word to you today is to never forget who you are and what you were called to do. Believe what God has said about you, stay the course, and do not be discouraged when relentless opposition comes. Remember; "the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world." 1John 4:4

Frankly Speaking

After the Sabbath, as the first light of the new week dawned, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to keep vigil at the tomb. Suddenly the earth reeled and rocked under their feet as God's angel came down from heaven, came right up to where they were standing. He rolled back the stone and then sat on it. Shafts of lightning blazed from him. His garments shimmered snow-white. The guards at the tomb were scared to death. They were so frightened, they couldn't move. The angel spoke to the women: "There is nothing to fear here. I know you're looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed. Now, get on your way quickly and tell his disciples, 'He is risen from the dead. He is going on ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there.' That's the message."
Matthew 28: 1-7

And what a message it was, and is! Today is the day that we celebrate Resurrection Day- the day our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ shed His burial clothes and walked out of His tomb. Death, the penalty for man's sin, had been defeated once and for all and from that day forward hope was assured to all who believed. Before He returned to heaven, Jesus left us with the promise that He would ask the Father to send us a Helper, one who would comfort and strengthen us. (John 14:16). This Helper, who we know as the Holy Spirit, is alive and active in the lives of all those who believe. When we walk in the power of Holy Spirit, we walk in the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead and sin and death is no match for that.

The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Romans 8:11
